I didn't know Allen that well, but two memories that I do have are funny and I have to share them so I don't ever forget them...besides I have to give him some credit for the reason I am here. :)
It must have been the early spring of '81 that my parents left their young kids for the weekend and traveled to San Diego for My Uncle Allen's and Teri's wedding. Now, I know it is difficult for some people to imagine this, but at a very young age, my parents had to give me the following information...that I was conceived in San Diego that weekend. I remember being tortured as a child, by my siblings... They would tell me that I was adopted b/c I was the ONLY blue-eyed and blond haired child on like both sides of the family or something! Anyways, my parents had to give me some kind of story to put my young mind at ease, by telling me that I was conceived in San Diego the weekend of Uncle Allen's wedding and that I was a California girl...being the reason that I had light eyes and hair. I'm so glad that I'm here!
In March of 2005, we all (Scott, baby Ella, Scott's Parents) headed up north to Richard's home town, Salmon, Idaho for his brother's 50th wedding anniversary. Coincidentally my uncle Allen lived in the same tiny town, so we got his number, and talked to his wife, who informed us that he was working on a house that he was renovating. Richard new exactly where the street was, an in a matter of like 4 minutes we were down there (keep in mind, I hadn't ever remembered meeting him before) so we are driving down the street looking for the house and before I even had the chance to look at the house numbers I knew exactly what house it was b/c there was a man's backside (the same FABBI "plumber crack" that almost every man on the Fabbi side has) kneeling down planting flowers. "There He is!" I shouted before I even saw his face! He had renovated and remodeled this darling house that I remember telling Scott I was willing to move to Salmon, Idaho for! He was so nice to talk/visit with us for just the few minutes that we did and give us a tour of the amazing house that he had worked on. We even got this picture...
I remember this time too vividly, b/c just a few days after we got back from Idaho, we found out we were expecting Paisley! That is our family joke, both times that we've gone to Idaho and Montana, I've come back pregnant! Must be in the water there...and in San Diego's too.
It's comforting to know that I have these memories. They are helping me stay positive tonight! That and my sweet little family that I'm so grateful for...goodnight.

Hi,Sweet Julianne--
You have no idea how precious your words are. I was getting ready to send you a card yesterday as knew you must be back in NY by now and loved your Christmas note. You and your family are so spectacular and amazing and I am enjoying your adventures so much.
We will all hold quite the memories of Allen--he will not be forgotten. I am so grateful for the two weeks he spent here in October. I knew when he left I would not see him again--I just couldn't feel what would cause this to happen.
Please make sure your Papa is looked after--we are all so lucky to have him in our lives as well.
Keep enjoying all of your adventures and will write soon!
Much love!
Thanks for that post. I had no idea that had happened, I GUESS I am officially out of the loop here in the "north pole" I have so many great memories of Allen, he will be missed for sure!!!!! We were planning a trip to Idaho before we move, i guess we should have gone earlier :(
It's so funny to be laughing and crying at the same time, of course he had the Fabbi plumber crack! Thanks for that great memory, I can't wait to hear more of them.
Al & I have been close friends for 30 years and his loss will be felt dearly. He is the epitome of a true friend. I enjoyed your humorous stories about visiting Al in Idaho. He was a very positive and caring role model for my children. We will all miss him.
Patrick
Patrick, I was hoping we would get to know him more through other's stories and words...thank you for that.
