The Hukilau!

Shaka!
Several weeks ago, while I lay sleeping in the AM, with my two children sitting next to me on their bed, playing quietly, I heard a song in my sleep..."we'll throw our nets, out in to the sea, and all the ama-ama comma swimmin' to me...." and then right there, in my sleep I got all teary eyed and sat up and asked Ella to keep singing...she'd been learning the same song I was taught in elementary school at Vegas Verdes! Anyone remember that song?!

Her kindergarten class actually performed the song and dance at a multi-cultural celebration last week during school. Although she was in the faaaaaar back, she did a fantastic job. She has AWESOME hula arm movements! I video recorded with two different devices at once, so no pictures of the actual performance, but it was adorable with the children out there with their bare feet and all, all hula'd out!

There were several different colors of grass skirts...neon yellow, pink and purple... and Ella came home and said to me, "my skirt was the natural color of hula skirts." Obviously it sounds like her teacher had to do some convincing, I imagine that the colored ones were very appealing to her...but deep down I knew that he just put her in that natural skirt because I would want it to be that way. lol. Kindergarten is seriously so fun. I can't wait to do it again next year with our Peso.
